port from OldCombatMechanics,
which is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0). MPL-2.0 permits
combining that code into this GPL-3.0-or-later work as a Larger Work (MPL-2.0
§3.3 / §1.12). See the NOTICE file for details.
